Rainy Day Essentials

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FIU chapter.

Florida, known for its unpredictable weather can sometimes hinder our morning outfit choices, particularly if it happens to be a rainy day. Luckily we’ve done the research for you. Fortunately we have just the tips for you to look and feel good even though the rain can be a bit of a downer. Here are the essentials for this rainy February.

  • Hunter Boots

I cannot express how much I love my Hunter boots. They go great in the rainy days and in the winter days. They are also very light and not bulky at all, perfect to store in your car for those just in case days. While they can be a bit on the pricey side, these babies last you FOREVER (literally). If you are a women’s size 7 and under, you can buy the kids sized Hunter boots for about 40% cheaper than the adult ones, what a bargain!

  • Hunter Socks

Hunter socks are great because of the material and they keep your feet warm and snug, even if you wear them with regular rain boots. They still make a pretty great difference. While these too are pricey, invest in one pair and you’ll never look back, they’re that good!

  • Leggings, Leggings, Leggings!

Now we all know leggings are a college girl’s best friends, but even more so in the rain. I will say this, rain + jeans = disaster. They take forever to dry and they attach to your skin like soggy bread sandwich to a Ziploc bag. Leggings are much more comfortable to a) run to the class you’re probably already late for, b) it is literally the easiest thing to put on, and c) very easy to dress up to look your best. If you’re more of a Blair Waldorf and believe in the “tights are not pants” motto, then maybe you can wear it under a nice T-shirt dress or a long tunic with your favorite jacket.

  • Utility Jacket

These have become super popular from what I’ve seen, and can also run on the expensive side. However they are great at keeping you warm in the rain and in class, and they’re not overly bulky either.

  • Bun Maker

I don’t know how many of you have tried to fight your hair with all the wind and rain coming at it but let me tell you, it’s not fun. Bun makers are the perfect hair accessory for keeping your hair out of your face and away from the rain as much as possible, with a few bobby pins and a little hair spray, your bun will stay perfect from your morning Starbucks until your night class.

  • Umbrella

I mean I feel this goes without saying, but you’d be surprised how many people brave the rain without one. While this is acceptable for light showers when you’re walking to class, it’s always a good idea to keep yourself dry, because there is a chance you could catch a cold and no one wants that. Invest in a small clear one to keep in your purse at all times.
