Doja Cat has been one of the most influential artists of our generation. Ever since the debut of Hot Pink and Planet, everyone has noticed she is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry and her success is not coming to a halt anytime soon. However, during the past few weeks, Doja Cat has recently announced and reassured people that she is indeed quitting music. For context, this all started when Doja was supposed to perform on the opening day of the AsunciĆ³nico Festival in Paraguay. The show ended up being canceled because of flooding due to a severe storm and fans subsequently were annoyed that Doja didn’t interact with fans. Especially when she was in her hotel room with her team, fans took to Twitter to convey their annoyance since Doja did not display any interaction with fans outside. Even though there was a storm, some artists took to Twitter to apologize and overcompensate for the cancellation. Machine Gun Kelly ended up doing an impromptu show outside of his hotel and apologized to fans on Twitter. Even though her performance in Paraguay was received well, she took to Twitter the following day to say this:

Things started escalating more on Twitter when Doja apologized for not giving a good enough show at her Lalapalooza appearance in Brazil, just a few days after the Paraguay show.

Some fans took to Twitter to display their frustration and annoyance with the situation. One fan went to Twitter to say that Doja was “Public enemy #1” in Paraguay and “it was too late to apologize”

After the storm, there was no one outside waiting to greet her and even though she is not obligated or told my management to go outside her hotel room. There were multiple exchanges with upset fans and some fans coming to defend Doja from all the backlash. I’m just gonna let everyone be mad” she replied to one tweet.

I do think she could have approached the situation better since there are always going to be some people with entitlement issues and she is not obligated to go outside during the storm. However, there were complaints from fans that she did not show any remorse or care about the situation. Some fans tweeted how sad they were and some just gave more backlash since people waited out for her.

She also stated that she wouldn’t be taking pictures with anyone after her current show.

Even though I could understand the frustration and her feelings are totally valid, she should have reconsidered some of her statements since some of her fans are loyal supporters. She then went on a rant, what makes this rant so much more different than her usually posts on Twitter is that it lacks her usual comedic and sarcastic takes. During this rant, she said that she will be quitting music however, she was going to fulfill obligations and other appearances that have been in her work schedule.

Fans and a lot of media outlets, went on the say how would she quit music if she has a tour coming up and was nominated at the 64th Grammy Awards for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Doja replied back saying: “For those who are seeing me at the after-hours tour, I’m not bailing. But me not bailing doesn’t mean my a** isn’t gonna disappear right after. I still got s*** I gotta do. And a lot of y’all think cus I post a f*** picture it means I’m not out. Pic doesn’t =music GOOFY. So yes that still means I got videos to film I got performances to do and I got content to drop so I’m popping it out and dipping. I ain’t gone yet.”

Overall, this rant about quitting music shouldn’t surprise those that are die-hard fans and are in the loop of what is going on in their music career. Previously, she did go on to Instagram Live to show disdain for her work schedule and since people were talking about the situation, she ended up recanting her statements. In December 2021, she posted on Instagram Live to clear up the rumors about her hating her career.
