Sunday, September 14th marked the beginning of a new chapter for many collegietes at FIU and the continuation of a chapter to another many. A day highly anticipated by sorority women everywhere and FIU is no exception: Bid Day.

Bid day marks the beginning of a girl’s life as a sorority woman. It is the day when she runs home and adds the Greek alphabet to her keyboards. When she meets her future bridesmaids and children’s godmothers. The day when she decidedly can look around a room and say: “These are my values and these are my sisters.”

For a select group of sorority women who guide the potential recruits, this is the day they finally get to return home. Back to the place their heart guided them to that Bid Day that seems so long ago. To these Rho Gammas, their Rho babies will never forget just how much they helped along the way. I am sure the bond that was formed between Rho babies and Rho Gammas will never be torn as will that bond between Rho sisters. Together, as women in different sororities, be it Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Phi Epsilon, Phi Sigma Sigma, Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa or Sigma Sigma Sigma (or the newly chartered Alpha Chi Omega) they can strive to build a better FIU for the future and eventually a better world.
