Monday’s call for the start of a week and a new episode of America’s favorite romance TV show, The Bachelor. This show has been going on for years and has become a staple in American households. If you’re not familiar with the show, a man is searching for his wife and is placed in a house with 30 women who all hope to marry the man at the end of the show. They go on extravagant dates and even travel across the world together. However, due to many societal issues this season was impacted in ways that haven’t been before. While the coronavirus pandemic didn’t allow for the show to do as many adventurous dates as they normally would, this season proved to be the best and worst season of the franchise.

PRO: More Diversity

It was long overdue, but this season was the first to feature a black man as the bachelor, Matt James. The show has been criticized for some time for having a very white washed cast, but the season also featured many woman from all sorts of walks of life. Many assumed that the franchise chose to have a black bachelor this season to demonstrate themselves as being more inclusive amidst the Black Lives Matter protests.

CONS: Dealing with COVID

The bachelor is widely known for traveling around the world while finding love. In past seasons, the show was filmed in Europe, South America, and more far off destinations. The coronavirus pandemic lead to the show having to be filmed at one location. In fact, all cast and crew were mandated to quarantine for 2 weeks before starting production.

PRO: Speaking against bullying

The show may be about someone finding love, but people are always excited to see the drama that comes along the way from the woman in the house. This season seem to have a lot of it and spoke about important issues to raise awareness for women. After one of the contestants wrongly accused another woman of being a sex worker, many name shameing started being thrown around.

They took the time to address all these rumors and emphasized that this slander was not tolerated on or off the show.

Cons: *SPOILER* the Bachelor is no longer with the person he chose

The best part of this show is seeing the couples make deeper connections that end in a proposal. This season wasn’t that. In the last episode, Matt got cold feet and decided he’d want to wait to propose to the woman he chose. However, when images of his new girlfriend came forward of her participating in racist events, he decided to call things off with her.

This show has and will continue to entertain people around the world. Can’t wait to see the next season!
