Right now, everyone is either stuck in their dorm rooms or at home and has nothing to do (besides homework, of course). During quarantine, Netflix was the only thing that kept me sane. I even now have a secret talent for finding the best Netflix shows. Whenever anyone needs Netflix recommendations, I’m the first person they come to. So, what should you binge? Relax. I got you covered!

1. Gilmore Girls

The best show I could recommend to you is Gilmore Girls. It follows a 32-year-old single mother and her teenage daughter who are more friends than mother and daughter. They both dream of pursuing satisfaction in their careers and love lives. I can’t believe it took me this long to watch it! It has everything you could ever want in a show. The best mother-daughter relationship, friendships, romance, comedy, and it deals with real-life issues. There is not a day that goes by where I’m not thinking about this series. I promise you will be attached to every character and it will have you in full sobs by the end.

2. Shameless

Shameless follows six kids and their drunk and obnoxious father. The oldest daughter, Fiona, has to raise the rest of the family on her own. They need to steal food and money to survive while their father offers nothing. Meet the spectacularly dysfunctional Gallagher family. This show devours into real-life problems that other shows shy away from. One of the best shows of all-time hands down. It will have you laughing so hard one minute, and then the next your shirt is covered in tears. There is nothing in this world more addicting than Shameless

3. Sex Education

Otis Milburn is an insecure teenager who is clueless about sex, even though his mother is a sex therapist who is blunt about all parts of sexuality. After accidentally helping the school bully with his sexual performance anxiety, Otis sets up a sex advice business with one of his “best friends” Maeve—a confident but troubled classmate—to help students with their sexual problems. I know what you’re thinking. ‘What on earth is this show?’ Let me tell you it is one of my all-time favorites. This show delivers a hilarious yet heartfelt story about real people and the complicated mess of contradictions that we are. Oh, and did I mention they’re British?!?!

4. Umbrella Academy

This will be the most strange recommendation I have because I’m not one for action TV shows, but let me tell you this show was perfect! This series follows an eccentric billionaire, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, as he adopts seven special children and puts them through severe training to sharpen their superhuman abilities and ultimately turning them into a team of heroes known as The Umbrella Academy. Years later they reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of an impending apocalypse. This show has everything you can think of action, romance, comedy, drama, and mystery. I was always left on my toes and binged two seasons in less than a week.

5. The Society

Wow was this show a wild ride. I can honestly say I have never watched anything like this before. The Society follows a group of teenagers who must learn to run their community after the rest of the population of their town disappears. The mystery begins when the students of the local high school return early from a field trip and find that everyone is gone. This show is crazy, and I never knew what to expect. It was interesting to see what a world would be like without adults or authority figures. Be prepared to be spooked and have your mind blown!
