Teyana Taylor Album Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FAMU chapter.

Harlem stand up because Teyana Taylor is not here to play. The multi-talented artist released her first full length album VII  on November 4th under Def Jam records. The album debuted straight in at No.1 on Top R&B Hip-Hop Albums. With features like Chris Brown and Fabulous she still keeps it R&B with some Hip-Hop flavor.

A total of 14 songs including her first single “Maybe” featuring Yo Gotti and Pusha T, Taylor has made it clear what to expect from this album. Leading up to the release of the album Taylor made teaser videos to only four songs off the album.

Recently the songstress released her second single off the album, “Do Not Disturb” featuring Chris Brown, a seductive bedroom banger, which was also a part of her teaser video series.

The album has a 90’s R&B feel from the production to her very unique voice.  Inspiration from Ginuwine in “Business” and paying homage to Teena Marie’s “Portuguese Love,” Taylor has outdone herself with this album.

It has been seven years since we’ve been exposed to Teyana’s music, hence the title of her album.  “I thought it would be dope if I named the album seven because my journey from the last seven years have been a tough one,” explains Taylor in her Madam Noire interview.

This is your time they always say seven is a year of completion, this is your seventh year,” Teyana’s mother Nikki Taylor explained at the album release party.

Congratulations to Teyana Taylor and her new album.  If you haven’t heard it you might want to cop that and see what the talk is about, this could possibly be her year.
