Political Party vs. Progression Plan?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FAMU chapter.

Many people are more concerned with the political party of the candidates running in the 2012 Presidential Election rather than their stance and forward progression plan for the United States. For everyone living in the state of Florida the ride will not be easy. In 2011, Governor Rick Scott and Republication-dominated Legislature’s passage of a controversial election law stated that, among other things, it would decrease the number of days in which in-person early voting is allowed. Previously there were 14 days of early voting; now there are eight days. Although it seems like the Republican orientated state is taking all precautions to get Mitt Romney the vote, many people have taken advantage of the early voting since the days had been cut. In the August 14 primary 367,000 citizens voted early, whereas in the August 2008 primary 240,000 voters casted early ballots.

Take advantage of the resources to get the full prospective of the candidates and their plan to make America a better place because all news is not reported in a neutral stance. Obama is always regarded in a bad light because of the things he did not accomplished in his hard journey to critique the things broken before his term. But, the good is not always shone.

After five presidents failed to create universal health insurance, the Affordable Care Act was signed in 2010. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed the stimulus in 2009 which created 3.7 million new private-sector jobs. Osama Bin Laden was eliminated in 2011. The U.S. Auto Industry was turned around in 2009, the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy was repealed, let the space shuttle die and killed planned Moon mission which was badly designed and an expensive of one billion per launch, and America’s overall image of those abroad was improved. While Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts (’00-’07) did not work this past year but made approximately $20 million and was only taxed 14%. Yet, he wants to raise taxes on the middle class.

Although Republicans are seen as the enemy during this 2012 election, some are also depriving themselves of their right to vote. For instance, students who have moved to another city or state to attend college or university are given the option of an absentee ballot but, it is easier to register to vote in the local area. The last day to register to vote is October 9, 2012 and is postmarked 29 days before the election. So, as November 6th approaches, get others informed and ready for the big day!
