HC:  What made you guys choose to run for president and vice president for the senior class?

Cliff: Well we felt as though our class needed a change. We ran last year and were unsuccessful but we still saw the changes that we wanted to see were not put in effect so we decided to run again. We feel like the class needs new life and new energy.

HC:  What’s the most important point on your platform?

Jaliyl: That’s probably going to be “Own it. It’s yours” because we have to give the voice to the class otherwise things that you want to get done, they probably won’t get done. We’re not trying to dictate the class. We want everyone to play their own part.

HC:  Jaliyl, why did you choose Cliff to be your partner? And Cliff, why did you choose Jaliyl?

Cliff: I’m more of a serious, laid-back type of person. And he’s more of an outgoing, outspoken type of person. I feel like you need both of those things for a successful ticket. He likes to talk to the people.  I mean I like to talk to the people too but he’s way out there. I like to be the visionary and just put ideas in motion. Jaliyl gets the people involved.

Jaliyl: Cliff is the brains, I’m the beauty! [Laughs]

HC:  What does this position mean to you?

Jaliyl: First of all this position is not a resume-booster. My resume is good. Ok? We just want to be in a point of leadership so we can actually inflict some change. Everyone that runs for something says they’re going to do this and that, and I’m going to say probably 99 percent of the time those things don’t happen. So we’re going to make some stuff happen. It’s not like we don’t care about doing the same things as other people are doing but we just want something different. We’re going to make it happen.

HC:  What’s one thing you love about FAMU?

Cliff: One thing I love about FAMU is the melting pot that it is, there are people from everywhere on this campus. There are so many ambitious people in one place and it’s just like a melting pot. You can find people anywhere that do different things. I love it so much.

Jaliyl: I love FAMU because it’s the perfect example of black excellence. We have a lot of successful alumni that come out of FAMU. I love my school, School of Business and Industry. There are great opportunities in SBI. All the schools have great opportunities! It’s not like we came here to have fun, but FAMU is a fun enviorment.  Though I love FAMU for the amazing enviorment, the academics is why we are here.
