5 Ways to Stay Positive Through Exams

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Falmouth chapter.

With exams and university stress at this time of year, everyone is feeling the pressure. Here are 5 simple and cheap ways to help cheer yourself up:

1.       Exercise

It might sound tedious and a lot of effort, but being active is proven to aid depression and stress. Just a 30 minute gentle walk will release endorphins which are chemicals in your body which help to diminish stressful and negative feelings. A lot of people call this the “runner’s high”; the feeling of euphoria you get after exercising. So give it a try!

2.       Eat well

Missing meals and eating junk will often make you feel sluggish and tired, so try to eat good, healthy meals at regular times! The essential nutrients and vitamins inside fruit and vegetables will boost your immunity and energy naturally, which in time will perk you up and make you feel so much better.

3.       Socialize

Being trapped inside all day revising is no fun, we know, but socialising is a great way to relieve stress! Going out with your friends for a few hours, and having a chat about something else will keep your mind off of things for a bit, and help you to return to your work with a fresh eye.

4.       Get plenty of sleep

Sleep is very important when feeling unhappy and stressed. Tiredness will only make you feel worse, so getting an early night, away from the computer or phone will help you relax, and give your head a break. Try having a relaxing bath a couple hours before bedtime, and a warm drink to help wind you down!

5.       Interact with animals

It’s a proven fact that interaction with animals is a stress reliever and aids depression. Something as innocent and adorable as a dog or a cat that relies on you can help you feel positive about yourself, and give you some initiative to keep yourself well.
