What Not to Wear to Your Next Job Interview

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

When picking out an outfit for your next interview it is crucial that you keep in mind the importance of first impressions. With this article, Her Campus will make sure your first impression is a good one!

First off, even for a casual job interview (for something like a summer camp), you do not want to wear anything ripped, stained, too oversized, or that is a thin and not well-made material. Avoiding these items will help you look more put together and less frumpy. A job interview is not the time to wear your old oversized hoodie and ripped jeans.

For more professional positions at companies and nonprofits, make sure you are dressing for the dress code the job will require. Do not dress down and wear something too casual for the dress code. If the dress code says business casual, do not try to wear jeans, as they are not traditionally considered business casual. Instead, wear trousers that are either navy blue or black.

Lastly, it is important to be aware of the neckline when you are picking out a shirt. Many interviewers will expect or value modesty when it comes to workplace attire. So, make sure that your tops are fairly conservative.

Good luck at your next interview!!
