What Her Campus Fairfield Turning One Really Means

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

One year ago today, Her Campus Fairfield launched at our school and no one really knew what would come of it or what to expect. Some thought it was going to be a fluke while others didn’t understand what it was truly about. For Co-founder Amanda McKelvey and me, the launch of Her Campus Fairfield was about passion, teamwork, and creating opportunities for the female population on our campus.

Even though this entire week is filled with cupcakes and pink balloons, there is a deeper meaning to it. This isn’t just a silly Birthday Week. This is a celebration to mark one year of success on campus, to thank the team members for their hard work, and for our readers who we appreciate so much.

When you think of Her Campus Fairfield turning one, I want you to realize that you are capable of much more than you might think. I didn’t know what I could do because I didn’t have anything to do. If Amanda and I never started this, we wouldn’t know what we are actually capable of. Get involved, start a club, challenge yourself. There is an amazing person inside of you who’s waiting to come out, take a chance on them.

When you think of Her Campus Fairfield turning one, I want you to feel motivated to create something that doesn’t exist, but you think would make the school (or world) a better place if it did.  Amanda and I saw the need for something new at Fairfield, especially as society moves towards a digital age. Her Campus Fairfield is the first strictly digital publication at Fairfield, and we run five days a week, which no other campus publication does. We wanted to create an opportunity for female students outside of the classroom, and we believe it has helped to prepare our team with internships and jobs.

When you think of Her Campus Fairfield turning one, I want you to appreciate the power of words and know that you can make a difference in someone’s life. Your words can affect someone. Whether it’s a fun article to give someone a laugh they desperately needed, or a powerful story to help someone know they are not alone, Her Campus Fairfield strives to do both. Words are powerful, and in the past year we learned exactly what kind words can do for someone. Use your words to create a positive impact.

When you think of Her Campus Fairfield turning one, believe in teamwork and all of the incredible things that can happen if you work together. Without passionate people coming together and working hard, Her Campus Fairfield would not be what it has become. If you bring a group of people together who are willing to work hard as a team, the possibilities are endless.

As we celebrate Her Campus Fairfield turning one, it’s important to know it’s not just about us. It’s about the possibility of achieving your goals and making things happen for yourself. It’s about you, our reader. It’s about our sponsors, and the Fairfield University community. And of course, it’s about the amazing team of girls who work hard every day to make the publication what it is.

Thank you for one awesome year, collegiettes!
