New Trend Alert: Opal Hair is Popping Up Everywhere on Instagram

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Looking for a way to totally reinvent your hair for the winter season? Then opal hair is definitely for you! This is honestly one of the most creative and gorgeous hair color trends we’ve seen and Instagram is just as obsessed as we are. Finally, the perfect combination of last year’s unicorn and mermaid trends comes to life as a hairstyle!

The range of pastel color schemes is endless and you can even opt for a more dramatic effect with a darker palette. If you’re loving the whole delicate, textured look with soft hues, we highly recommend light pink and peach undertones with a hint of silver or ice blue.

One factor to consider if choosing to pursue this trend is your natural hair color. While blondes won’t have any problem showing off their glistening tints, our dark-haired ladies will need more vibrancy. Thankfully, hairstylists already have this covered with opal’s sister “opal-oil slick hair.” The approach remains the same; each color applied just has a darker effect. Opal hair does work best on blondes, so working to achieve this with Olaplex (platinum blond hair) is encouraged.

We can’t wait to see all our ~fab~ ladies take on this totally unique trend! The transformation will be amazing and your hair will of course thank you!
