Unless you’re living under a rock or have sworn off social media for the new year, you’ve at least heard something about the Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber drama that has begun to circulate on social media. If you haven’t been keeping up, here’s everything you need to know.
A few weeks ago, Selena posted a lighthearted, goofy TikTok to her account, showing fans how she over-laminated her brows. No big deal, we stan a relatable queen. But when Kylie Jenner posted a screenshot of a FaceTime call between herself and Hailey Bieber of the two showing their eyebrows to the camera, fans began to speculate they were making fun of Selena. Kylie has since commented on a TikTok about this “drama,” stating the posts had nothing to do with each other and fans were making something out of nothing, to which Selena replied agreeing.
However, this comes shortly after Selena Gomez became the most followed woman on Instagram, surpassing Kylie Jenner. Additionally, Selena’s cosmetic brand, Rare Beauty, just topped the charts at number one for the most bought makeup brand, competing against Kylie’s brand, Kylie Cosmetics. We are all aware of the long history of “beef” between Selena and Hailey, and it seems as though there’s just too much backstory for this to all be coincidental.
To take things one step further, what started as fans accusing Hailey and Kylie of “teenage bullying” has turned into a deep dive into all the strange “similarities” Hailey has with Selena. One of the strangest has to be the same tattoo they share. Selena has a cursive “G” behind her ear, representing her little sister Gracie. Hailey, of course, has the same cursive “G” in the same spot but has never given any reason or meaning for the tattoo. To name another, Selena has had her cooking show on Hulu, Selena + Chef, that’s wildly popular amongst her fans. In the show, she cooks in her personal home kitchen, and her grandfather is her costar. Shortly after the show’s release, Hailey also started a cooking show, What’s In my Kitchen, where she cooks in her home kitchen, and her grandmother acts as her costar! Fans have gone even deeper, comparing the two side by side and showing how much Hailey copies Selena’s show concept, as both have similar openings. These are just two of many strange similarities Hailey “coincidentally” has with Selena, but if you ask me, they’re not so coincidental.
Following all this drama, Selena said she’d be taking a break from all social media. She didn’t comment on the speculated bullying. Hailey recently returned to social media, posting a Happy Birthday post for hubby JB. Hailey and Kylie have seen a loss in followers as their numbers rapidly decrease.
