I Tried to Instagram Like the Kardashians For A Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Ladies, this past week I agreed to one of the hardest, most stressful things I have ever been asked to do: take pictures like a Kardashian. Although that may have sounded like a good idea at first, personally I’m the type of gal who usually has other people in my pictures rather than just myself. My first reaction was: I have to post pictures of me?! My friends are going to think something’s wrong. Plus, due to my lack of entourage and my college budget, I unfortunately could not afford a selfie assistant.

For this experiment, I decided to space out my posts in order not to overwhelm my Instagram followers, especially since I only usually post about once a month. Here is my experience during the three days I Instagrammed like a Kardashian:

Day One

First of all, each of the Kardashians are well known for their selfies and especially Kendall. After doing some research, I found the app that Kim and her family us is Perfect365. The app applies different makeup looks to the pictures you upload which gave my photos a Kim selfie book #vibe.

To create this Kardashian style selfie, I took multiple pictures in the bathroom (while praying that no one walked in on me). Once I finally choose a picture I liked, I’m not gonna lie, I was very nervous to post it. I was pleasantly surprised once I did, though. My followers reacted well to it. My friends supported me in the comments and one even stopped me in the hall to say that they liked it. It was a lot of work, but it seemed to have been worth it!

Day Two

As we’ve all seen on Insta, the trend that the Kardashian’s, but specifically Khloe, uses is the retro look. To create this look, I recruited two of my suitemates to help me take Polaroids. It took around four or five pictures until I got the perfect pic. Although I did not master Khloe’s different poses, I feel I did a pretty good job. Once I chose the perfect Polaroid, I snapped a picture of it and tried to find the ~best~ Instagram filter. This look was my favorite out of all of them, but did not necessarily get the same response as the Kendall inspired one.

Day Three

Day three was by far the easiest! Kim and The Kardashian family has been known to share their favorite #TBTs on Instagram. So, I decided to find one of my favorite pictures from when I was little and add a filter!

Collegiettes, it was a fun experience having my inner Kardashian shine for the week! I’m definitely going to incorporate some of their ~techniques~ in my future Instagram posts. Hey Kim, is there room for one more in the family?
