HCFU Book Club: Some of Fall’s Best Reads

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Who doesn’t love a good read? It’s the perfect stress reliever during a week loaded with tests and papers and entertaining enough to keep your attention during lazy Sundays. Books have a way of taking our mind off what’s currently happening and transporting us to a place that’s better. No matter if you are looking for an epic romance to get your mind off school or a #girlpower autobiography to get inspiration flowing, there is a book out there for you. Here are a few suggestions:

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

This book will give you all of the feels. It has everything: love, friendship, music and some elements that you just don’t see coming. At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life. She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her—and she’s forced to decide what her next move should be.

Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

If this synopsis isn’t enough to grab your interest I don’t know what will. Once you start this book you will not be able to put it down, I promise.

Yes Please By Amy Poehler

We all love Amy Poehler. She made us laugh out loud during her SNL days, as well as in her most known role on Parks and Recreation. Yes Please offers funny advice and real life stories from Amy herself about love, friendship and more. Be sure to pick this one up. You will be glad you did.

Tales From the Back Row: An Outsiders View from Inside the Fashion Industry by Amy OdellAmy Odell, Cosmopolitan.com’s editor, gives a behind the scenes look of some of New York’s hottest fashion shows to meet the world’s most influential models, designers, celebrities, editors, and photographers. Encounters with Anna Wintour, Rachel Zoe, and Chelsea Handler are also featured. If you’re a girl with a dream to work in the fashion world one day, this is the book for you.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie Mcguire

This book is one of my all time favorites. Once read, every girl will be wishing for a Travis Maddox in her life. Abby catches Travis’ eye when he sees her at his fight in The Circle, an underground fight club where Travis rules. Trying to reinvent herself now that she is in college, Abby has no interest in being the next in line for Eastern University’s “Walking One-Night Stand”. She forces Travis into the friend-zone but he keeps trying to fight his way out. They both need to take a hard look at who they are, what they want, and if they are better as friends or something more. This is a must read! You will not be sorry you read it, I promise.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

If you are a fan of fairytales and magic, this is a must-read. The premise of the book is based on fairies and Beauty and the Beast.

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin—one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow grows over the faerie lands, and Feyre must find a way to stop it… or doom Tamlin—and his world—forever.

These are just a few suggestions….trust me I have tons more.  Take a chance on these awesome reads. You will be so glad you did!

Gab can most likely be found with a Venti Starbs in hand, while wearing obnoxiously large sunnies (no shame), reading the most recent issue of Glamour Mag.
