For the Fairfield Girl: Fairfield Valentines day: where to go, what to do & what to watch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Ah, Valentine’s Day. The first holiday of the new year that aims to drag everyone out of their seasonally depressive funk and fill their heads with ideas of idyllic stereotypical love. Ironically, this day is one that plagues many, specifically single college students. I am here to provide some insight to the people of Fairfield on how to make this Valentine’s Day as diverting as possible with or without a Valentine of your own.

Let’s start with a date spot. Along with the admirable academics, the town of Fairfield has countless quaint and charming spots to hang with your girl group or to take your partner out for a good time.

  1. Las Vetas Lounge

Las Vetas, located in the heart of downtown, is the perfect coffeehouse to get a sweet treat. The unique mugs that line the perimeter of the cafe along with the mismatched tables and chairs create a cozy atmosphere, similar to Luke’s Diner in Gilmore Girls. The specialty coffee and hot chocolate piled high with whipped cream is to die for.

  1. Pizzeria Molto

For a sit-down dinner option, I endorse Pizzeria Molto. Though any Fairfield-native with taste knows about this place, I could not risk leaving it out. Molto serves “brick oven thin pizza” along with a plethora of other fantastic Italian cuisine. Cocktails and wine are also available for those that can enjoy it. The dark, red, and moody interior sets the perfect vibe for a date night with your valentine or a good old GNO. Either way, Pizzeria Molto is a Fairfield must.

  1. Nutmeg Bowl

A little competition never hurt anyone. This date idea serves as a fun and nostalgic passtime for you and your valentine. Bowling makes for a great first date because it can act as an icebreaker. You can talk about the bowling league you were a part of when you were 10 or your cousin’s birthday party where your uncle forgot the cake. You get the jist. If you turn out to be any good (or just want an excuse to make another date), you can make it a weekly trip to Nutmeg Bowl.

If you are on a budget, as most college students are, stay in! There is so much pressure to go out all the time when that is just not realistic all the time. Here I present the perfect options for a night in.

  1. Movie Night

This may sound like a no-brainer but a movie night as a date is proven to be an age old practice. It’s easy, cheap, and sure to be entertaining enough as long as you pick the perfect flick. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with some of my favorite rom-coms that won’t cause your boyfriend to fall asleep:

  • How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days
  • Notting Hill
  • Hitch
  • Crazy, Stupid, Love
  • The Proposal
  1. Make A Playlist

Instead of sitting in your room scrolling together on TikTok (not that there is anything wrong with that), spend that time doing something that requires a few more brain cells and some thoughtfulness. Create a playlist for your valentine and have them do the same for you. For a group of besties, make an endless “getting ready” playlist or favorite club songs that you can use and add to throughout the year. For couples, you can each construct an everyday playlist that your partner can listen to in the car, on the way to class, etc. It is both something to do and a great personalized gift. Go one step further by creating some cover art with some photos and the title (you can do this in five minutes on Canva).

  1. Go For A Walk

As we all know, Fairfield is a gorgeous town in New England; so take advantage of it! Many college students here are not Fairfield-natives and will only be here for four years. Go for a hot-girl walk with your friends and listen to the playlist you made! Make sure this is not too labor intensive, this walk should be relaxing. Couples can take a stroll down the beach and watch the sunset (weather permitting). Chat about your classes or just roam in comfortable silence with your loved one. A good walk makes for a foolproof way to kill time on Valentine’s Day.

And there you have it. Take these date ideas and share them with your valentines. Be thankful that you are in Fairfield on V-Day.
