DIY Coconut Oil & Oatmeal Face Mask Recipe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

During this quarantine, it is important to maintain self-care! There is no better way to kill time and make your skin ~glow~ than creating your own homemade face mask with things you already have in your kitchen! Here is an easy coconut oil and oatmeal face mask recipe to have fun with!

Coconut oil and oatmeal are both great ingredients for acne-prone skin because they have antibacterial and antifungal properties. This face mask will help soothe any inflammation on your face and restore the natural pH level of your skin. Oatmeal contains compounds called saponins, which are natural cleansers that help remove the dirt and oil that clog your pores. Coconut oil contains vitamin E and healthy fats that help to make your skin smooth. The BEST part about this mask is that you only need three ingredients: coconut oil, oatmeal, and warm water!

  • Measure ¼ cup of warm water into a mixing bowl

  • Add 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and stir until it is completely melted with the water

  • Stir in 3 tablespoons of dry oatmeal until all three ingredients form a thick paste

  • Let cool before applying it to the skin

Now you’re ready to apply the mask! Make sure to wash your face first with warm water and an oil-free cleanser to open up those pores! Apply it to your face and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Once 15 minutes of pampering and relaxation have gone by, gently massage the mask into your face using small, gentle, circular motions for another 5 minutes. Once the mask is completely removed, rinse your face with cool water to tighten and close up your pores. Pat your face dry with a clean towel and enjoy your new ~glow~!
