7 Ways to Ease into the School Year after Summer Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fairfield chapter.

Getting back into the swing of things after months of summer fun can be difficult – especially when everything seems to start back up all at once. One minute you’re tanning on the beach, and then suddenly you’re juggling classes, clubs, and friends all at once. But don’t worry! Here are 7 ways to ease yourself back into the school year after summer break:

1. Find something to get excited about

Plan something with your friends or find something that makes you happy, and mark down the date on your calendar. Whether it’s a girls-night-out or just going to a movie you’ve been dying to see, give yourself something to look forward to! It’ll make it easier to get work done knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

2. Nap if you need to

You need time to adjust to a new schedule of working all day and waking up early during the school year. If you’re feeling tired, take a quick 20-minute nap! It could make you feel better and will definitely make it easier to focus.

3. Talk to your friends

Chances are, your friends are struggling with the transition from summer to school just as much as you are. It can help to talk things out together. You can also ask friends for advice – like what teachers they would recommend or their best study habits!

4. Have some ‘me time’

Take some time to yourself. Watch your favorite television show, paint your nails, read a book, or do whatever calms you down and makes you happy. Taking breaks in between tasks isn’t always for procrastination. Sometimes, it’s self-care and it’s very important.

5. Stay on top of things

The rest of the year will be easier if you stay on top of things now. This can be really hard to do, especially at the start of the year, but that’s okay. Start with something small, like a homework assignment, and then try to conquer your bigger assignments in little steps. At the end of the day, just try your best – that’s all you can do!

6. Make lists

When things seem overwhelming, make a list. It’s better to have a visual list of things you need to do than trying to remember them all. Plus, crossing out the things you’ve done is so satisfying!

7. Remember to take things day-by-day

When you’re overwhelmed, getting through the week can seem impossible! Take a deep breath and just focus on getting through one day at a time. Before you know it, it will be the weekend!

Hopefully this list helps you to get back into your school-time groove. Best of luck this semester, Stags. And remember, you got this!
