The Top 5 Must-Haves For Holiday Preparation

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

So the mid-term blues have hit; coursework, deadlines and the copious amounts of reading you really need to do just seem to be piling up at the speed of knots, and Christmas seems so very far away. The only thing that is allowing your, already frazzled, mind to take a slight break is the prospect of a fabulous holiday in the (hopefully not too long) foreseeable future.  Unfortunately, however much we fantasize about the perfect holiday break there always seems to be one weak link in your preparation that just creates a whole lot of fuss over nothing!

Therefore, HCX have compiled a list of the top 5 holiday preparation and planning tips to save you from any last minute disasters and holiday hang ups.

  1. Being prepared and scouring all the best package sights may seem tedious and dull however, an ideal and greatly underused website is Groupon Getaway Deals which was fabulous savings on simple quick adventures. You can peruse all the glossy hotel packages at your leisure in advance and not have to worry about booking your flights, hotels, car hires separately as fantastic holiday deal sites like Groupon have it all conveniently in one easy place.
  1. We don’t want to sound like your mothers here, but it is wise to perhaps have a sneaky look at the weather forecasts for your holiday destination prior to booking/ flying out! Imagine thinking you will be stepping off the plane in sunny Spain only to realise it does actually get a little bit chilly at certain times of the year! Use your iphone and select your destination so that you will be 100% prepared for all weather conditions when you embark on your travels.
  1. Selecting your hotel does not have to be a stressful or panicking experience. There are now so many internet websites which make it unbearably easy to select a fabulous hotel that won’t disappoint. TripAdvisor, for example, has honest reviews and traveller’s photographs so you can actually see what the hotel properly looks like. No more unwelcome surprises when seeing your room for the first time!
  1. It is definitely not overly keen, or even ‘nerdy’, to have a little Google about your future destination! Start to plan the islands you want to see, restaurants and bars you want to visit, and cheesy tours you want to experience. Set a countdown on your computer and plan your day to day itinerary so that you are fully prepared to wring every last moment of happiness out of your holiday.
  1. Finally, look forward to your long awaited holiday! Don’t over think or stress out too much about booking extra ferry rides or train tickets. Take a leaf from National Geographic and “Get Lost”, you will have an amazing time exploring and remember trips can be spontaneous! Enjoy your new surroundings, make new friends, and explore a different and fabulous city. This is your holiday, so do something that you secretly have wanted to do for ages.

There you have it, 5 top tips that you should consider when preparing and planning for your holiday. Don’t let the mid term blues put you into a funk full of essays and cold dreary days. Go and look at your local STA deals, search the internet, and dream big for your next exotic expedition. Plan in advance to get those extra juicy deals and enjoy shaking off your blues and embrace the holiday spirit
