You might be feeling somewhat downcast with the holiday season coming to an end, but fear not, the fashion trends for 2013 give you lots to be excited about. What is clear from the spring/summer 2013 fashion shows is that really anything goes– from minimalism to technicolor. The year ahead promises such a variety of trends that we will certainly be spoilt for choice in the fashion department!

So without further ado, here are the Top 5 fashion trends for 2013:

1. The Swinging Sixties…

It’s official, the 60’s are making a huge comeback in 2013, dominating the S/S13 fashion shows. Moschino fronted the trend with super short shift dresses and oversized helmet hats, completed by a strong and colourful palette. Tom Ford went one step further than the decorative floral trend and proved the sixties can be sexy and glamorous with leather, buckles and ultra deep v-neck jumpers.

2. Bomber Jackets

If you don’t already have one in your wardrobe, then 2013 is the perfect time to invest. From elegant and floral bomber jackets to the sporty classic, it is certainly the jacket style of choice for the coming year. High street shops such as Topshop and River Island, to name a few, have a huge selection on offer in their latest collections retailing at around £50.

3. Pencil Skirts

The sexy and sophisticated pencil skirt took centre stage at all the major shows, proving that the timeless classic is indeed – timeless! What’s so great about a pencil skirt is that they are so easy to come by at such an affordable price. Why not try shops such as New Look who offer pencil skirts for around £12.99.

4. Make Way for the Orient

The enchanting and vibrant prints, obi belts, kimono styles and origami shapes are a few of the exciting trends inspired by the Orient that we can expect for the coming year. Prada, Etro and Emilio Pucci paved the way for this trend in their shows.

5. Neon

And if these trends aren’t enough then be sure to make room for a pop of neon in your wardrobe this year. Fluorescent shades such as hot pink, cobalt blue and burnt orange are a perfect and easy way to stay on trend this year; why not take some inspiration from the Erdem and Matthew Williamson shows if you’re stuck with how to style it.

Whichever style you opt for this season, make sure you have fun with bright colours and bold patterns; Make a statement… Her Campus dares you!
