Things to Look Forward to This Summer – A Fashion & Beauty Perspective

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

It’s that time of the year: the suns starting to show and it’s getting closer and closer to what will hopefully be a beautiful summer! Summer is a great time for fashion and beauty because it is so easy! Throw on a bikini, shorts, sunnies and flip flops and you’re good to go! To get you in the mood, we have rounded up some of the reasons we should look forward to the coming season.

1)Less Make-up  & Effortless Hair

With the sun comes a natural glow for our skin, meaning we don’t need as much make-up as we do in winter. Everyone seems to just look more alive! A bit of sun cream and mascara during the day and you’re good to go. If you cake it on, it’ll just melt off anyway! Obviously at night time it’s fun to still make an effort but we love not having to worry about that stuff. Because you hair dries naturally so much quicker in the summer, it’s less likely to get damaged by your hairdryer and has a higher chance of getting beautifully natural waves!

2)      Bare Legs

YES PLEASE! Although yours might not be in great condition at the moment, we bet you’re looking forward to letting them see the sun – as long as you’ve had time to prepare them first! Shorts, dresses, skirts… all of these summer essentials are so fun because you feel so free and sexy. Here at Her Campus, we can’t wait!

3)      Flip Flops

Again, it’s the freedom and easiness that flip flops embody that make them so great. They’re easy to kick on and off, allow you to show off your colourful toenails, and on top of that, they go with everything! Just make sure you get a pair that aren’t so thin you can feel the ground beneath.

4)      Less to Carry as well as Less to Wear

Forget about layers, big handbags and a full make-up kit, summer is great because you only need to carry the essentials, which often means you don’t even need a bag! When heading to the beach, sunglasses, a sunhat, and maybe a towel will probably do you fine (along with an iPod full of summer songs). Of course, don’t forget your sun cream! Often the sun can be deceiving.  Less make-up won’t work if you need to cover up a tomato-red face.

We hope you’re all looking forward to the above and much, much more this summer. Exams are all that stand in our way….
