Healthy Skin At Home: Homemade Face Masks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

During the middle of term, our faces definitely need a little extra pampering; with deadlines creeping up on us and with the inside of your house starting to feel colder than outside, our skin is never at its best! That’s why Her Campus has four miraculous face mask recipes to help keep your skin looking healthy.

Heavenly chocolate face mask:

This delicious facial mask is ideal for normal skin and will leave your face feeling silky and soft. The cream and honey add moisture, whilst the oatmeal acts as a gentle exfoliator.

1/3 cup of cocoa

3 tablespoons of heavy cream

2 tablespoons of cottage cheese

¼ cup of honey

3 teaspoons of oatmeal

Mix all the ingredients together and smooth an even layer over your face. Relax for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse with warm water.

Apple pie face mask:

Apples are full of nutrients and therefore have huge health benefits. Apples contain an exfoliating enzyme, malic acid, which helps remove dead skin cells from the face, leaving your skin smooth and dirt free.

3 tablespoons of brown sugar

1 tablespoon of apple sauce or apple puree

1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon

Mix all the ingredients together and apply to a wet face in the shower, scrubbing your skin in a circular motion. You can use this mask on any part of your body to get rid of dry skin!

Avocado and honey mask:

This mask is ideal for dry skin as the avocado and coconut oil provide replenishing moisture, while the honey helps to heal any damaged areas.

½ very ripe avocado

2 tablespoons of honey

½ teaspoon of coconut oil

Mash the avocado until it’s smooth and then mix in the other ingredients. Apply to your face and relax for 10-15 minutes before rinsing your face with warm water.

Detoxifying mocha mask:

This mask is ideal for swelling or puffy skin because the caffeine from the coffee grounds helps to reduce puffiness, whilst the cocoa is packed with antioxidants which help reduce aging, and the yoghurt acts as a moisturiser.

2 tablespoons of ground coffee

2 tablespoons of cocoa powder

1 tablespoon of honey

3 tablespoons of yoghurt

Mix all of the ingredients together and leave for 10-15 minutes. When rinsing off the mask, massage your face gently to exfoliate the skin as well.

Take a break from your essay for 15 minutes and relax with your friends trying some of these homemade face masks!
