HCX’s Top 5 Places for Tea and Cake in Exeter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Who doesn’t love cake? At Her Campus we reckon there’s no better study break than heading out for a slice and a cuppa and luckily Exeter is not short of places where you can indulge! Here’s our round up of the five most delicious picks…

1)      First up: John Lewis. Not only is there a cracking view of the cathedral and a top selection of cakey goodness, but by signing up to a My John Lewis card you get your pick of their cakes and hot drinks free of charge once a month, every month. No catches, nada… it sounds too good to be true- but it isn’t!

2)      If you’re looking for something a little more West Country, there’s no better bet than Tea on the Green.  Her Campus thinks this would be the perfect place to take visiting family if you wanted to show them delights unique to Exeter.  More than generous servings of clotted cream, jam and scones? Yes please!

3)      Afternoon tea may be a little naughty, but it’s certainly a little nice. Although there are many promises of afternoon tea to be found around Exeter, Bills’s combination of delicate finger sandwiches, cakes and scones and instantly mood lifting atmosphere make it a clear choice. (Yes, the following picture is of the real Bills deal!)

4)      Boston Tea Party is arguably the best place to be if you’re in the market for cake, but also to catch up on work. Although a chain, it hasn’t a hint of that Starbucks feel and so it always seems far more of a treat to pop in for one of their legendary Rocky Road bites or baked cheesecakes. Also, they offer a slightly cheaper option if you’re looking for a full on afternoon tea fix, but are counting the pennies.

5)      At number five is a lesser known Exeter offering: Cakeadoodledo. Tucked just behind the cathedral, this charming eatery definitely wins awards for most enchanting décor, but also as the place for novelty cupcakes. Definitely a fun place to venture to with flatmates, and their gift boxes are perfection.
