Halloween Movies For Wimps!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter Cornwall chapter.

Let’s face it, not everybody wants to be scared out of their skin on Halloween. Some of us are happy giving out chocolate and sweets to trick-or-treaters for the evening, then eating the leftovers as we watch a cheesy Halloween themed movie that we remember watching the first time round ten years ago on Disney Channel. There’s no shame in it; in fact, here are some films we suggest watching this Halloween for old times sake!

1. Halloweentown

Yep, it’s one of those old-school Disney Channel movies you might have forgotten about. The first film was released in 1998 – do you feel as ancient as we do?! There are four of them in total, exploring what happens when humans interact with the monsters and ghouls living the alternate universite of Halloweentown. Throw teenagers into the mix and bam! Cult classic.

2. Hocus Pocus

Another old school Disney movie that tends to get forgotten about, but one you definitely need to watch! Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker, some crazy costumes thrown in with some cool music. Sorted.

3. The Twilight Saga

Anything vaguely related to vampires and werewolves would do, but Twilight clearly beats every other film in that genre . Watch it as a hardcore fan in your Team Edward shirt, or sit there and laugh at the terrible parts – because they’re there alright, even I’ll admit that!

 4. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Yes, we know, Christmas and all that jazz. But Halloween Town! Skeletons! Pumpkins! Oogie Boogie!

5. The Addams Family

If you haven’t seen them already, these films are worth watching for Wednesday Addams alone, because her witty and mostly disturbing one-liners are simply unforgettable. It’s scary and unnerving when you’re a kid, but now’s the perfect time to re-watch them and soak up all that nostalgia.

6. Ghostbusters

Probably not the first film you’d think about if someone said Halloween, but it’s obviously the most appropriate time of year to watch a film about busting some ghosts. Who you gonna call?

7. Twitches

Another obscure reccomendation belonging to the old school Disney category. It’s about twin sisters who are seperated at birth and grow up unaware of their magical powers, until they meet one Halloween and it all comes out. Together they must defeat the evil ‘Darkness’ and embrace their abilities. Go Twitches!

8. Monsters, Inc

Come on, it’s cute and it’s all about being scared. ‘Nuff said.
