I would’ve left Endicott College if it were not for Her Campus.Â
Four years ago I came to college from an all girls school where the topic of discussion was mostly pop culture and politics. I grew up in a place where I learned from my friends and peers that girls should never be scared of their ambition.Â
Too often girls are taught to make themselves small and not to take up too much space for men. When I came to college, that feeling was really relevant. I felt like I had to walk off the sidewalk for a group of guys to walk by or I was measuring my worth based on if a guy liked me or not.Â
I don’t remember the first Her Campus meeting I attended. But I remember in the meetings or late night writing sessions that we had that feeling that started to go away. I found a community of women similar to the one I had back home. We had fun talking about pop culture or feminism.Â
It was really because of the kindness of the upperclassmen that Her Campus was such a great club. The presidents before me were some of the nicest people. They were hardworking and creative with what the club could be on campus and as a her campus chapter. Because of all that I didn’t feel alone at Endicott anymore.Â
I was a really shy introvert as a freshman, and never held a single leadership position before. So, I never saw myself as a leader. Although, I joined the executive board as a freshman in the twitter and facebook manager position. Even though it was small and not super influential, it gave me a purpose on campus, which was what I was craving.Â
As a sophomore I was vice president, and then as a junior I became president of Her Campus. My year as president was obviously during the pandemic and was one the the most challenging parts of that year. It took a lot of creativity and resilience to get through that year and build up Her Campus. Then after a semester away from campus interning in Washington DC, I started the new position of Editor in Chief as a senior.
The work it takes to run Her Campus and all clubs at Endicott goes unseen a lot of time. It can be really overwhelming and challenging. But thankfully at Endicott there is an amazing advisor, a network of student leaders, a student government association and a whole student activities staff who are there to support each other. I’m honored to be a part of this senior class of student leaders because we really have been able to keep the spirit of Endicott alive.Â
Throughout my time at Her Campus, I have put on events and written articles that I am so proud of. However, what I am most proud of is the community that Her Campus Endicott has become. All of the credit goes to the amazing members of Her Campus – the girls on the executive board, members of the club who come to meetings and write articles, or those who help with events.Â
All of them matter so much to me because they all have so much love for each other anda positive energy to give the whole campus. It always makes my day waving to a HC memer around campus, and the fact that it is not going to be a daily occurrence anymore breaks my heart.Â
But really without the members of Her Campus, I would have never been able to do all I have done and for that I am forever thankful to them all.Â
Thank You Her Campus for the best college experience. I would not be the person I am today without you.
