Spring Break in Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

The WoodPEC has been busier than ever this month with people focusing more on their beach bod than their midterms and schoolwork.  Otherwise they’re working out to de-stress from all of their studying.  Either way, this is helping you look great in your bikini for Spring Break next week.

The real question is what should you wear over that skimpy two-piece?  Whether hitting the beach, going sightseeing, or getting ready for a gourmet meal, here are a few items that will show off your newly bronzed self and toned legs.

For the Beach:
Leave the Juicy Couture terrycloth shorts and zip hoodies to teenyboppers or wanna-be-hip moms, and cover up in something chic!  A colorful and patterned breezy tunic is the perfect piece to throw over a bikini, and will also keep you cool if you want to put it on to shield yourself from the sun.  Big-rimmed sunglasses, large straw-hats, and pedicured toes are also a must to avoid wrinkles, a burn, and complaints about your feet.  This Chanel tunic is a perfect example of an easy-to-wear beach cover-up!

For the streets:
When stepping into the city, think Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday-inspired clothes.  50s and 60s fitted outfits are the perfect look for sightseeing – they are appropriate to wear around cities, breathable, and cover you from the sun!  Sport high-waisted short shorts with a tucked-in oxford, a colorful belt, and wedges, or wear a structured dress.  Remember to always wear a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses to protect your skin!  Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Shopbop model the style.

For the nightlife:
After a day in the sun, wear something effortlessly chic that shows off your sun-kissed skin and fits with the sand and Caribbean beats.  Get away from structured city clothes and change into something flowing and loose.  Taking inspiration from Chanel, pair a plain oxford with capris, and wear a belt or ribbon around your hips to show off your curves.  A white suit is also appropriate for all warm events, whether a formal dinner party at a resort or a romantic date for two (as seen at Calvin Klein).  If you do not want to don constricting pants, pairing an elegant Grecian style dress with flats is a sure way to relax yet still look like a goddess on vacation.  Check out these examples from Marchesa and Chanel.

No matter what you wear, enjoy the sun and the time you have to relax!

Jessica lives her life at several speeds. She talks too fast, eats too slow and over-analyzes too much.  When she’s not telling long-winded stories, sitting alone at the dinner table, or staring off into space, Jessica loves all things creative. Screenwriter, play director and poet at age 9, songwriter and choreographer at age 16, now, at 23, all she really wants to do is write, help others, and post Instagrams.  As a social media coordinator for multiple fashion brands, and a post-grad writer for Her Campus, she gets to do just that. Jessica is a Midwestern girl from the suburbs of Chicago, but she fell in love with city living during a summer internship in the Big Apple, and now calls NYC home. Jessica loves chocolate milkshakes, dance parties, Chippewa Ranch Camp, Friends re-runs, Chuck Bass and of course, spending time with her fans (read: family and friends).
