Audrey Inspiration

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emory chapter.

Every morning I go through the same routine.  I re-check weather.com knowing that the outfit I picked out the night before for class will be totally wrong, due to the fact that Atlanta weather seems to change more than Kim Kardashian’s latest boyfriend. I then struggle with understanding what 76 degrees really feels like.  Will it be humid?  Hot?  Cold?  Windy?  Even as an obsessive weather checker, I always fear my outfit will not be quite right for the day.  What do I wear so that I am not freezing or overheating?

HC Emory has found an answer: capris.

Now, you may be thinking that capris are so matronly, childish, or old-fashioned, but you would be wrong.  They were seen on almost every runway show for spring 2011 in a variety of styles. Plus, they were a staple in Audrey Hepburn’s closet so you know they’re classy and fashionable!

Still don’t agree?  Hear me out: dresses blow up in the wind and you have to shave your legs to wear them. Both of these facts cause stress for us girls when we’re just trying to wake up in the morning and get to class!  Shorts are cute and all but can quickly become trashy when not paired with the right top or shoes.

Capris are the perfect solution!  You can pair them with a nice t-shirt, blazer and flats, a casual t-shirt and gladiator sandals, heels and a blouse… the list goes on and on!  They also come in a variety of patterns and colors, or you can customize them to your own personal style – I’m thinking rips and paint smears.  They can even be worn to nice events, concerts, class, a baseball game, etc.

Still not feeling it?  Fine.  But someday you will wear them, and when that day comes, remember to thank me.

Jessica lives her life at several speeds. She talks too fast, eats too slow and over-analyzes too much.  When she’s not telling long-winded stories, sitting alone at the dinner table, or staring off into space, Jessica loves all things creative. Screenwriter, play director and poet at age 9, songwriter and choreographer at age 16, now, at 23, all she really wants to do is write, help others, and post Instagrams.  As a social media coordinator for multiple fashion brands, and a post-grad writer for Her Campus, she gets to do just that. Jessica is a Midwestern girl from the suburbs of Chicago, but she fell in love with city living during a summer internship in the Big Apple, and now calls NYC home. Jessica loves chocolate milkshakes, dance parties, Chippewa Ranch Camp, Friends re-runs, Chuck Bass and of course, spending time with her fans (read: family and friends).
