Why You Should Apply to be a Resident Assistant According to EC RA’s

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

This is my third year of being a Resident Assistant at Emmanuel College and I can’t say enough good things about my experience. I have grown so much professionally and personally through being an RA, and I have made friends that will last a lifetime. The leadership and problem-solving skills this role both requires and helps develop are things I never could have gotten in a classroom setting, and the support I have felt from both my peers and Residence Life’s professional staff has been incredible. I recommend applying for this position to everyone, but if you need further convincing, check out what other RAs have to say about it:

“When you become an RA, you become part of an overwhelming circle of support. You’re constantly being inspired and challenged, and it’s the most rewarding feeling ever.” -Marlys Mason, First-Year RA

“It’s an amazing community filled with genuine people who help make this campus home :)” -Nadel Henville, First-Year RA

“It puts you in a position to use highly applicable problem solving skills.” -Mickey Baron, First-Year RA

“People should apply because it opens so many doors both personally and professionally. Within just 3 months, I feel like I have learned so much about people and myself. It’s a fantastic way to express yourself creatively, through programs, bulletin boards and door decs and grow professionally!!” -Christine Burke, First-Year RA

“The position is an incredible opportunity for personal growth. The responsibility and creativity that it requires allows you to learn new things about yourself and put into action passions of yours on campus. It’s really what you make of it!” – Tracy Neville, First-Year RA
