On September 28th,  I was surprised with Mt. Joy concert tickets for my birthday. They played two nights and I was fortunate enough to go with my best friend. We went on their opening night, and we were shocked to find out that there would be no opener. Instead, Mt. Joy played two different sets. They chose to do this and make a special edition tour shirt for Boston (I sadly didn’t purchase)because of their love for the city. Matt Quinn, the lead vocalist of the band, graduated from Northeastern in 2013. He dropped out of law school after writing their hit song “Silver Lining,” and the band took off. Mt. Joy returns to Boston every tour because they all share so much love for the city.

With Mt. Joy being one of my favorite bands, and getting to go with my best friend, I had one of the best nights of my life. They opened with the song “Sheep,” which is my all time favorite song. As soon as I heard the first few notes I knew it was going to be a good concert. They played all of their best songs, and surprised the crowd with covers like “Where Is My Mind” by Pixies and “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley. The best part was when they played an unreleased song for the crowd.

This was my first time at the venue, the MGM Music Hall, and I absolutely loved it. I normally get pit tickets, but we opted for seats above the pit and we had such a good view. It was so fun to be able to have a perfect view of the concert while also seeing the crowd right below us. It was also a nice break from pit tickets, where we normally would have to wait several hours for good spots.

Overall, the Mt. Joy concert was an amazing experience. The people in our section were kind and the music was beyond great. I am so thankful to have been able to go and cannot wait to see them again in concert.
