5 Reasons to Adventure into the Modern Retell of Little Women

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emmanuel chapter.

If you’re looking for a good movie and a good excuse to indulge in the cinema experience, book your ticket for the modern retelling of Louisa May Alcott’s classic tale of Little Women. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will enjoy a truly timeless tale that is still making its mark in our world today. But if you need a little more convincing, here are five takeaways and five reasons you should see this wonderfully beautiful movie.

1. The building of castles

We all have our “castles” in life, we all have some place where we decorate, foster ideas, and fantasies of who we want to be. This modern rendition of Little Women will inspire you to not only think about what your castle looks like, but seize your pathway to get there!

2. The finding of your inner soldier

Like the March sisters, we are all soldiers fighting this grand battle called life. This film will remind you and empower you to see your inner strength.

3. The March sisters

You will see the greatness of the March sisters immediately start affecting your life after watching this movie. How?! Maybe you are uncontrollably and fearlessly ambitious like Joe. Maybe you are simply in love with love and strive for those family goals like Meg. Maybe you are artistic and creative like Amy. Or maybe you are quiet and kind yet ferociously strong like Beth. Perhaps  you are all of the sisters or various combinations of them. Ultimately, you will start to recognize pieces of the sister’s personalities in yourself and through this you will feel empowered, strong, and beautiful

4. “I’m going to do all the things!”

Throughout the movie you will hear again and again “I’m going to do all the things” or “you have to do all the things for me!”. This repeated inspired quote will leave you high on the amazing open-endedness of this world, the possibility, and the prosperity. So, go out and ‘do all the things In fact, make watching this movie one of them!

5. Finding gratitude & perspective

For those who have not read the story and have not seen the movie yet, I will not spoil the ending for you but I will say that the difficulty of Beth’s life, in listening to this story again, became an eye opener. Like Marmee says in this movie, “Bethy’s life was the hardest out of all of us and she was the happiest”. This line hit me hard, as I’m sure it will for most of you as well. In spite of all that challenges you, there is always a way to see brighter side of things and  a way to focus on appreciation for what you have as opposed to what you don’t. This movie will leave you inspired to find you gratitude for the amazing things happening in your life!

A story of overwhelming family love, sisterhood, empowerment, and overcoming the unbearable, this movie will be worth your while! I am reconnected with the beauty and strength of Louisa May Alcott’s timeless tale and I urge you to do the same. You’ll be glad you did.
