Themes for your New Year’s Eve Party

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Emerson chapter.

Each year brings new trends in terms of pop culture and 2013 was no exception. So what better way to ring in the New Year, than to celebrate the greatest trends of the old? Here are a few fun theme ideas for your New Year’s Eve party!

The Great Gatsby- This past May, Baz Luhrmann released his over-the-top film adaption of this 1920’s classic. In the spirit of this, party like Gatsby this year! Have your guests dress in 1920’s costumes, screen the movie, and be sure to blast the movie’s soundtrack, featuring artists like Jay-Z, Beyonce, and Kanye West.

What Does the Fox Say?- Almost everyone has seen the music video for this ridiculously catchy song by the Norwegian group, Ylvis. Take a note from the people in the video, and dress in animal-inspired outfits for the night. Bonus points if you throw in a Ylvis playlist!

Miley Cyrus- A little strange, but this was definitely the year of Miley. Put Bangerz on and pop on flicks like The Last Song and LOL. PS- Hannah Montana is also on Netflix if you’re feeling nostalgic…

Orange is the New Black- People went nuts over this Netflix series based off a woman’s real life experience in a woman’s prison. Screen some episodes and show up rocking your scrubs (Just plain orange will work too!).

What other good New Year’s party themes can you think of to celebrate the end of 2013?
