Her Campus Emerson: What are you involved in on campus?

Sydney: Currently, I am involved in Emerson Dance Company. Our show is going up in just a few weeks now, then I will be in the Emerson Shakespeare production of Taming of the Shrew. I am also involved with Emerson Channel Sports as a sideline reporter. I am an active member of Kappa Gamma Chi and hold the position of Alumni Co-chair.

HCE: What about off campus?

Sydney: I work a few times a week at Boston Common Coffee Company. I also try to stay involved in volunteer opportunities in the Boston community through my sorority. I try my best to see as many shows as I can in Boston as well.

HCE: Is it hard to balance a job with all your on campus stuff?

Sydney: It gets difficult at times, but it just makes me focus even harder on time management. It’s definitely a give and take, but it just really forced me to stay on track.

HCE: Since you’re involved in so many things outside of class, it must be hard to find time for yourself. What do you do to relieve the stress that must come with your busy lifestyle?

Sydney: I run. I make time for it, it gives me such a release. Boston is beautiful and running through this city is a treat. But, even when winter hits, the gym is fine just as long as I get those endorphins flowing. I used to play a lot of sports in high school, coming to college I could no longer do so because of the conflict between athletics and my major. I fell in love with running my freshman year – it is my go to, but from time to time it can be a love hate relationship.

HCE: What made you want to come to Emerson?

Sydney: The opportunities here are endless. The training is top notch. And the location of being in Boston simply wonderful. It was only after coming here I realized that the people here would be a perfect fit too. The Emerson community is strong and I am thankful for that.

HCE: Who is your favorite actress? Or, who is someone whose career you would want to emulate?

Sydney: Wow. There are so many amazing actresses out there that are inspirational on so many levels. My first love was Julie Andrews, her grace and talent was something I wanted to emulate since age five when I began watching her work. Then there is Meryl Streep, she is a fearless and fierce actor, everyone know this, but something I would love to emulate about her is her work ethic and her passion for it. Lupita Nyong’o is one of my most recent favorites. Not only is her work inspiring, but she realizes her influence on young females and chooses to be a positive one.

HCE: What do you want to do when you graduate? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Sydney: I plan on moving to New York City and working on both stage and the new and upcoming film and TV scene there. In 10 years, I would like to be able to support myself by doing what I love and nothing else and having a loving caring family to share my life with.

HCE: What’s the greatest piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Sydney: There is beauty in everything, it is your choice to see it. And with your courage to act upon it.
