New Halloween Costumes for 2011

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Elon chapter.

As any collegiettewho has seen “Mean Girls” knows, “Halloween is the one day a year that a girl can dress like a total slut and no one can say anything bad about her.” But Her Campus collegiettesknow that it’s not all about looking like something you aren’t on Halloween! Expressing yourself in a fun and unique way is the best way to get noticed in the right ways during the Halloween season. It’s time to throw out the clichéd costumes and try out something new and creative for a Halloween costume this year!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Why not be Audrey this Halloween?  Take a leaf out of her book by being classy and stylish for the night and you’ll stand out in a crowd for all the right reasons! You can get a simple little black dress like the one above at a local thrift store and a tiara and pearls at the Spirit Halloween store by YoZone in the Holly Hill Mall.

The Mad Hatter

Aren’t we all a little mad sometimes? Try a fun feminine take on the classic character and have a ball on Halloween! You can buy the costume at Spirit Halloween or it would be easy to get a hat from Target and make your own version of this fun outfit. You would get noticed not only for your costume, but also for your fearless sense of style.

Hippie
Since Elon is performing “Hair” this Halloween season, why not get in the spirit and dress as a hippie? Target sells plenty of long wigs you could use, and there are endless possibilities for clothing ideas. Grab your friends and check out those thrift stores again, like Twice is Nice in Burlington. There has to be someone’s fringe vest that they donated in the 1970s.

Devil in the Blue Dress

Talk about unique! Ditch the classic red devil for this Halloween. Pair a pretty blue dress with some devil horns that you can easily get at Spirit, Target or anywhere else devil horns are sold.

Don’t forget to be unique! Here are some costumes to avoid this year:

-Schoolgirl
-Nurse
-Maid
-Bunny (Playboy or otherwise)
-Disney Princesses
-80s girl (unless you change it up a bit- don’t just do the workout look!)

Halloween is all about having fun and letting your personality shine through your costume. Try out these creative looks, and the spotlight will be on you this Halloween!
