Meet Seeley Lutz, an Elon University student following a passion she discovered when she was a little girl. From people like Olivia Pope, a strong woman character in the ABC show Scandal, to Michelle Smith, the designer of Milly and Sydney Izen who started Unemployed Denim, Seeley has many career women she looks up to. Sydney inspired Seeley to incorporate patches into designs, finds her easy to relate to and is doing what she wants to do one day.

What are some of your interests?

I love being with my friends but there is so much more to me than that.  I have a passion for fashion and have been making my own clothing for the past two years.  I also have a passion for interior design and Elon has allowed me to express that creativity.  By living on my own I have had the opportunity to design my room, which in turn has brought out a creativity for designing clothes as well!

How did you start to like all things fashion?

When I was the little girl, I would sneak into my mom’s closet and try on her clothes. But as I got older I looked for ways to express my own style.  Beginning at about the age of nine, I would look for clothes in the back of her closet that she rarely wore. Some were vintage from my grandmother. I created outfits combining my clothes with my mom’s accessories and wore my creations to school.  Ever since then I just really had a passion for it!

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be and why?

I would love to combine my love for fashion and events and work to plan things like fashion week and other prestigious events.

What are your plans for the future and in getting this dream job?

I plan to get internships in New York City for the next few years to learn about the industry and get a lot of experience.
