Staff Spotlight: Meet Megan Downing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ECU chapter.

Name: Megan E. Downing

Greek Affiliation: Alpha Xi Delta

Year: Sophomore

Major: English and Creative Writing

Her Campus Position: Campus Correspondent

HC: What made you want to bring Her Campus to East Carolina?

Megan: Honestly, I am a member of Greek Life, and I felt like it could be a great opportunity to bring sorority life together. I also wanted to make a fun writing opportunity available to students. We don’t really have anything like this for our campus. As an incoming freshman, there weren’t very many sources like this to read about campus life and other things pertaining to life at ECU.

HC: What about it are you looking forward to most?

Megan: Sorority recruitment. I think the site as a whole will be the ultimate recruitment guide for Potential New Members and a way to access each recruitment video, a guide to what to wear, advice on each day. I feel like there will be so many opportunities for us to reach out to incoming freshman and provide them with information that we wish we had going through.

HC: Is Her Campus mainly Greek Life based?

Megan: No, absolutely not! We want to spread Her Campus in a way to bring the whole female student body together. Greek life is just our beginning because most of the staff is a part of it. But everyone is welcome to write and we hope everyone will relate to our content!

HC: What is your dream job?

Megan: I’m really not sure! All I know is that I want to write, and I suppose the biggest dream for me in doing that would be getting paid to write about traveling. That’s something I would really love the chance to do with my job.

HC: What is your favorite part about being an ECU student?

Megan: I love being at ECU because although we have such a large campus, it’s rare that I ever walk to class without seeing someone I know. We have such a small campus atmosphere and it’s so easy to get involved and to meet new people. And football. Football games are always fun! I love being a Pirate fan.
