Beachin’

While the rest of the country is bundled up against the frigid winter weather, students at Eckerd College can be seen soaking up the sun. But sun-tanning, swimming, and other beach related activities can get monotonous if the only places you hang out are South Beach, Kappa Field, and even St. Pete Beach; try visiting one of these local beaches!

Treasure Island

Treasure Island is really just the north part of St. Pete Beach therefore; it is only about a 15-minute drive from Eckerd. You can even avoid paying a toll by taking 275. But Treasure Island is also one of the windiest beaches in the area so be sure to check the weather first.

Madeira Beach

Madeira Beach is another wonderful beach option. This beach is only 20 minutes away and offers free parking. Also, the beach is next to John’s Pass, an area with restaurants, cafes, and shops, so you can bring lunch or buy it there.

Indian Rocks Beach and Indian Shores

These two beaches are both approximately 30 minutes away from Eckerd College. Indian Rocks Beach has a small fee for parking but does not get crowded like St. Pete Beach or Clearwater Beach. Indian Shores is known for its Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary and the secluded nature of its beach.

Enjoy relaxing on the beach at one of these new locations.
