Michael Kahn

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

Heads up girls, this Campus Cutie is such a sweetheart! Meet Michael Kahn, a senior from Raleigh, North Carolina majoring in Psychology and minoring in Economics.

Interests/Hobbies:

I am an avid SCUBA diver and love hiking, mountain climbing, and snowboarding. I’m also very interested in psychology. The human mind is fascinating and understanding certain aspects of psych helps me to better understand and work with all different types of people, which I love.

Involvement on Campus: Student Government, Wayne Manor, DUU Major Attractions, Tour Guide, PWaves Staff

In order to get to know Michael a little better and in honor of his graduating year, I’ve asked him 9 questions. If you’re anything like me, you’re going to be reading these answers thinking “too good to be true!” Here’s to hoping there are more Michael Kahn’s in the world *cheers.*

1. Favorite place on campus?I love sitting out on the BC plaza on a nice day, especially when people are tabling for events and such. It just makes Duke feel like such an active and exciting place to be and you realize how much is going on around you. I also love walking by the Duke Chapel at night. Even after three years, it still gets me every time.

2. Best Duke memories? This is really tough with so many amazing memories. 1) Winning the National Championship freshman year has to be near the top of my list. I was in Cameron watching on the big screen and that was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. 2) PWaves is one of my favorite weeks of the year, every year. 3) All of the LDOC and Old Duke concerts.

3. What do you look for in a significant other?I’ve been told that I’m weirdly happy all the time and I think that comes from just keeping things in perspective and realizing how lucky I am for so many reasons. So I look for a person who has a positive outlook on life and takes time to reflect a bit each day. Other than that, just someone who is driven and driven for the right reasons.

4. What is your dream job?

I’m not sure about my actual dream job, but if I could do anything, I’d live in Colorado and snowboard, mountain climb, and white-water raft all day.

5. If you could fix one problem in the world what would it be?If I could fix one problem in the world, I would stop depression from impacting so many people. It’s a condition that is very hard for anyone outside the person to understand, and while I’ve been fortunate to never face it myself, nobody should have to feel that way.

6. What’s on our bucket list?I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro a few years ago and I’d really like to complete the Seven Summits (the tallest mountain in each continent). With six more to go, I better get going. Most of my other bucket list items have to do with travel. I’ve been really fortunate to travel all over the world with my family but there are just so many places left.

7. Who would you switch lives with for a day if you could?I would love to switch lives with a famous musician on the day of a big concert. If Bruce Springsteen was interested, I’m sure we could work something out.

8. Anything you have to say to Duke girls? This is your chance…You guys are great and I would just say thank you for being such good friends and company – especially the Class of 2013 PWAVES girls that I’ve gotten to know so well over the last four years.

9. Who would you like to thank for being where you are today? (i.e., “Campus Cutie”)? I wouldn’t be where I am today without my whole family and I owe everything to the support of my parents and siblings.

My name is Sarah Haas and I am a sophomore at Duke University just tryin' to figure it all out! I'm from a small town in North Carolina called Granite Falls, right in the heart of the piedmont of the Appalachian Mountains. I'm passionate about social justice, gender equality, volunteerism, and the pursuit of a good cup of coffee. I love to read and write- with a special interest in poetry- and I'm always updating a blog or social media site- so, I love being a part of Her Campus!
Betty Liu is a senior at Duke University where she is majoring in Biomedical Engineering.  Although her main interests lie in bioengineering, she loves keeping up with the latest trends on Duke's campus. Also, she enjoys learning about new music, reading and travelling around the world. One of her life dreams is to go to all seven continents! So far, she has been to four.
