Five (Surprisingly) Useful Christmas Presents – Part V

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

1. Kitchen Utensils

I got a mini-Crockpot for Christmas. My first thought? What on earth am I going to do with this? Can I even afford to sacrifice the space in my room? My second thought? Wait. That’s legitimately so awesome.
While on-campus dining likely accounts for a large portion of the food you eat at Duke, sometimes you want to bake celebratory cupcakes, or gather with your block to cook a nice meal to remind you of home. When you hunker down to do this, you may realize that you don’t actually have the tools that you’re used to seeing in your kitchen! That’s why measuring cups are a great gift (no more guesstimating with your Nalgene or solo cup!), and a baby Crockpot suddenly seems so useful. And hey, now you can stop swiping the Great Hall silverware!

Victoria Scott is a junior and English major at Duke University. On campus, she is an Editor and Photo-blogger for Her Campus, Managing Editor for The Chanticleer (the university yearbook), photographer and Copy Editor for DMIX Magazine, and a Resident Assistant. In her spare time, she enjoys baking cupcakes and playing tennis.
Betty Liu is a senior at Duke University where she is majoring in Biomedical Engineering.  Although her main interests lie in bioengineering, she loves keeping up with the latest trends on Duke's campus. Also, she enjoys learning about new music, reading and travelling around the world. One of her life dreams is to go to all seven continents! So far, she has been to four.
