Curl Your Hair Without Heat!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

If you’re a fan of the Blake Lively Messy Hair look (but really, who isn’t?), but you don’t have time in the morning to use your curling iron, you have to try these tips for getting gorgeous beach hair without any heat!

Let your hair dry in braids.

It’s really that simple. I like to take my showers at night, so I just put my hair into a braid, either a French braid or normal, and go to sleep. In the morning, I use some product to keep the body. I really like Aussie Sprunch (non-aerosol) because it adds a bit of texture as well. Make sure your hair is dry, take your hair out of the braids, and voilà!

Rag roll your hair.

Again, this is literally as simple as it sounds.
·      Cut up six to eight strips of rags that are about 6-by-2 inches.
·      Start with damp or dry hair. If your hair is dry, wet the ends of your hair with a spray bottle of water.
·      Separate your hair into either six or eight sections, depending on how many rags you made.
·      Wrap one section around one rag, starting at the bottom.
·      Wrap it up to about ear level, then tie the ends of the rag around the curl you’ve created.
·      If necessary, spray the curls with anti-frizz.
·      Sleep on the curls, and then carefully unroll them in the morning. You can use the same Aussie Sprunch to help keep the curls intact for the day.

Use a sock bun.

This last technique is a bit trickier, but looks great once you’ve mastered it. You’ll need a knee-high tube sock for this curling technique. Cut the sock at the toe end and curl it on the outside up toward the other opening. You should be left with a ring that looks like this:

Put your hair in a ponytail at the top of your head. Use a scrunchie or soft hair tie to avoid a kink. Start with damp or dry hair. if your hair is dry, wet the ends with a spray bottle of water. Take the ring and pull the ends of the ponytail through it. Wrap and tuck the ends of your ponytail under the outside of the ring and slowly roll the curl down the ponytail. Repeat this process until the sock ring meets the top of your head. It should look like this:

Leave your hair like this overnight. In the morning, just remove the bun, add a bit of product, and you’ll have beautiful curls!
