Adventures Across the Pond Installment 1: London?!!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Duke chapter.

This article marks the first in a series of posts about my time and adventures  “Across the Pond” in London, England.

As I boarded the airplane from Atlanta last week all I could think was London is 5 hours ahead…London is 5 hours ahead… London is 5 hours ahead.. How would I survive the first day? Staying awake for 32 hours didn’t seem possible and spoiler.. It wasn’t (I ended up taking 2 naps that day). After spending 2 hours in immigration, I was absolutely wrecked but still had a day full of orientation events and meet & greets. But funny enough, I stayed up all night filled with jet lag and excitement.

The next day we were able to actually explore and the sheer beauty of the city was enchanting. From the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly Circus to the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace, London has my heart. The people so far have been so welcoming and nice, I really couldn’t ask for more.

As time goes on I have a lot to look forward to. Next week I start my classes and my first meetings with the Women’s Union and the Baking Society. With the months to come, I don’t know if my excitement will fade, but for now I am here to say that it is everything I imagined and more.

After spending almost 2 weeks in London, I still can’t wrap my head around the fact I’m actually here. Every morning I wake up, open my blinds, look up at the overcast skies and smile. For months, studying abroad was all I could think about and now that this time has come it feels like a never ending dream.

Hi, I'm Emma and welcome to my world!
