Drexel Maya Literary Magazine’s Halloween Bash this past Friday at the Van Rensselaer Hall Balcony got people in the mood for sweet treats, games and prizes. Dozens of people came to celebrate their fellow Mayans as they called all ghosts, witches and creatures of the night to enjoy this evening fright! This “spooktacular” event engaged the partygoers in the Halloween spirit with interactive events, such as, a Halloween themed mad-lib, two festive drawings, Scrabble and Wordcross.

This is Maya Literary Magazine’s third year hosting the Halloween Bash and it is a party that all students want to attend. During the event, students were provided free food and refreshments, including pizza, candy, popcorn and iced tea. They also had the opportunity to win a variety of games, such as, spooky story and poetry competitions, magnet stories and a pumpkin decorating contest. Students were also eligible to participate in the Halloween costume contest with an entry fee of $1. People dressed as scary or as silly as they liked for the contest and the crowd chose a first place and second place winner for each category: Most Impressive DIY, Group (2+), Spookiest, Cutesy-est, and Staff Pick. The staff also selected their favorite winner as well! Be sure to tell your friends about Maya Literary Magazine, because the more, the scarier!

Drexel Maya Literary Magazine is the undergraduate’s only literary magazine service since 1967 that hosts a multitude of events, such as, the Haiku Off, Rhyme On, Summer Olympics, Book Release Gala and the aforementioned Halloween Bash. If you are interested in joining Maya or submitting your work for their published magazine, join through Dragon Link as the organization is always excited to welcome new members and hear new ideas that will further Maya’s legacy. Individuals who do submit their work will be eligible to win a $100 cash prize for each of the four categories: poetry, nonfiction, fiction and art (of all different mediums).
