The Boost: Drexel’s New Daily Newsletter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

If you’ve ever wondered about the best way to find information regarding Drexel activities that doesn’t require browsing through multiple calendars, HC Drexel has got the thing for you. The Boost is a daily newsletter covering Drexel activities sent right to your inbox. Hopefully you’ve seen their ads in LeBow or heard your friends talk about the new daily newsletter popping up around campus. We did and so we decided to find out more behind this completely student-run newsletter.

To start off, the most important thing you should know is that its main goal is to connect students on campus. Guided by their desire to connect students to events on campus, they wanted to create something more exciting than the Drexel Events Page but also come up with a way to engage their audience. Instead of giving a generic description, they go behind the scenes and talk to students actually involved in the events. They cover the popular events on campus like Spring Jam and also the smaller events like fundraisers and hot dog stands on Powelton.

Every great idea needs a name however, and the Boost was no different. Inspired by the purpose of this newsletter and their effort to increase campus involvement, they knew “The Boost” was a perfect name. Every weekday at 1 pm an email is sent out containing a “What’s Up” section followed by various other sections depending on the day and content. The “What’s Up” section is where you can see fellow students highlighted in a whole new light.

The team is made up of five team members who meet up once a day around 6 p.m. to prepare content for the next day. This can include interviewing student organizations, promoting events on campus and around Philadelphia, and highlighting those making a difference or standing for change.  Team members Jeff Nowak, Sara Golshahr, Ethan Brenahan, C.J. Kraft, and Madison Read are responsible for creating the content and will actually be our Campus Celebrities next week so keep an eye out for their profile!

Running the Boost isn’t as easy as it looks though, since new content needs to be generated on a daily basis. Trying to encourage campus engagement, they rely on their readers to offer themselves up for an interview. If you know of something they should include, reach out to them! Support your fellow Dragons in their quest to start something totally unique on Drexel’s campus.

You can sign up for the newsletter by going to this link and make sure to follow them on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and SnapChat: @theboost_drexel.

Lindsey is a senior at Drexel University, majoring in operations management & bus. analytics. She has been with Her Campus Drexel for four years and was CC for the middle two. Along with living the city life, she takes an active interest in street style, putting together puzzles and binge-watching her current Netflix obsession. She actually calls Montana her true home so now you can say you know that someone actually lives there ;). When she's in Philly, you can find her in Center City scouring the racks of thrift stores, Old Navy, and H&M if she's not on campus enjoying the multiple food trucks or catching up on the readings she put off until the last day.
