Out of all of the seasons, Fall might be my favorite time to experiment with fashion, especially for back-to-school. With runway shows fresh in our minds and celebrities like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner gracing magazine pages in their latest obsessions, the academic year is an exciting time to try out what’s trending. Sadly, the classroom itself might not always feel like the appropriate place to experiment with fashion. Luckily, HC is here for all you collegiette girls! Check out some suggestions for rocking the latest fall trends in your 8 a.m. class.
Velvet
Forget about saving the best for last! Velvet has steadfastly remained one of my favorite fall fabrics (try saying that three times!). From Armani to Valentino, velvet made its presence known on the runway. For an everyday, velvet look, a cute button-down and a pair of jeans is the way to go. Feeling bolder? Grungier? More (fashionable) Morticia Addams? A velvet romper or dress is a go-to for September and October, when spooky style is all the rage.
Chokers
It’s no secret that the 90s are back in full-force. Like velvet, the choker is a throwback trend that I hope will stick around. Chokers are a fun way to add a little something to your outfit. If you are feeling extra nostalgic, you can even wear your choker with your velvet dress!
Metallics
It’s no question that metallic fabrics have made a comeback. You might think that going for shimmery frocks is best left for New Year’s, but we’re here to prove nay-sayers wrong. Headed to class? Jeans are a great way to dress down a shimmery top! Feeling a little more adventurous? Maybe a little more Carrie Bradshaw? Why not pair that same top with a tutu-style skirt!
(Faux) Fur
Whenever there is a slight chill in the air, you can expect fashionistas everywhere to break out their fuzziest (faux) furs! Why not take your furriest fashion pieces a step further with a pop of color? We absolutely adored Saint Laurent’s brightly colored pieces! Greens, maroons, and even light pinks can add a certain extra something to your outfit. Not feeling quite so bold? A faux fur vest can make even the laziest outfits look polished for class.
Geometric Patterns
Probably the most wearable trend, color-blocked and geometric patterns were all over the runway. I especially loved the neutral-toned looks at Yeezy with pops of color (perfect for fall!). Whether it’s a sweater or a dress, geometric patterns add the pop of color that your autumn wardrobe needs (especially in your early morning class).
Who says you can’t bring the catwalk to campus? With this style guide in hand, prepare to be the belle of the fall!
