Skin Care Products Under $30 You Should Try Like… Today

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DESU chapter.

I am not kidding when I say that these have been actual life changing products for me, be mindful that what works for me might not work for you, so if any of these products sticks out to you in particular do your research, read other reviews and see if it’s actually something you want to try. Some of these are external products that you put on your skin, some you consume, and some aren’t technically classified as “skin care” products in the store, but they work amazingly, and some of these things are specifically for skin but actually have a long list of rewarding outcomes. And by the way, a lot of these are under $10, except for maybe two things which is why I capped the price at $30, I included the prices (and rounded them up to the nearest dollar) and they may be different prices from different vendors. (Little heads up, I could be wrong but it seems to me that the least expensive website to buy most of these is ThriveMarket.com)

  1. Witch Hazel – $5

OK so I would’ve never thought witch hazel was something I needed in my life but I use it everyday. It is probably the best thing I’ve ever used to take off face makeup, including any makeup wipe or anything known to be a makeup remover (but make sure you still wash your face) and it is so good for acne, it helps get rid of dirt and oil, you can see it on the cotton ball.

2. Bio Oil – $13

This is supposed to be really great for acne scars, speaking from personal experience it’s helped a little, but it’s still too soon to swear by it. It’s also meant to help with stretch marks and uneven skin tones, it’s super moisturizing and the only oil I put on my skin without getting afraid it’s going to clog up my pores. At night I prefer this over lotion, and in the morning using this after wiping my face down with witch hazel helps me feel awake.

3. African Shea Butter – $6

Reduces inflammation, smoothes skin, protects against wind, cold, sun, helps repair rough or damaged skin, amazing for eczema, treats dark spots, skin discolorations, stretch marks, blemishes, can be used as hair conditioner or sun screen, honestly the list for this is endless. It doesn’t expire, is all natural, and seems to last forever. The list of benefits for this honestly goes on and on and on, the advantages are listed on the container but the internet knows there is so much more.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar – $3 (online, in stores it’s around $6)

I know, I know “vinegar?” yes, vinegar. It is super good for acne, using it externally can help your skin and drinking it will also be helpful. But make sure you mix it with water! I drink it everyday, the first time though I thought it would taste gross and would be easier to take a swig and then wash it down with water. That was a mistake, it’s so acidic it can burn your throat, I thought I was going to choke and die. But don’t let that scare you off, mix two tablespoons with a bottle of water and you will be fine, it may not taste the best, but you won’t feel like your throat is being ripped out. Not only is it good for your skin, it can help you lose weight and has a lot of health benefits like controlling blood sugar and lowering cholesterol (and apparently curing hiccups), but I would suggest doing a little research on all the endless benefits. Make sure when you get this you get a bottle with the “Mother.”

5. Aztec Healing Clay – $5

My favorite mask ever! It’s organic and has been named “the worlds most powerful facial” and let me tell you that you can feel this stuff working. It “pulls your skin” and the jar says you can feel it “pulsating” but black charcoal mask are in right now and you literally pull those off of your face, so this may sound a little scary but it’s significantly less aggressive. Your face could not possibly feel any cleaner after using this, and you can also use it in your hair. Inside the container is a powder that you can mix with water or apple cider vinegar, but you can feel it work twenty times better with apple cider vinegar.

6. Coconut Oil – $9

You’ve likely heard the million and one benefits of coconut oil, I honestly could talk about it for an hour, I use it in my hair, I shave with it, I use it to help my eyelashes and eyebrows go if they’re waxed just a little too thing. It’s good for some peoples skin, but for me I wouldn’t put it on my face, but it is the only thing I use to take off eye makeup. Waterproof eyeliner will not be a problem to remove this at all.

7. African Black Soap – $5

It’s super good if you have sensitive skin and is meant to really help with acne. It’s my go to face wash (usually I rub my face brush against it and use it that way) and because it’s a bar soap if you have acne on your back it’s super easy to wash your body with. And I don’t know about any other brand, but I use the Shea Moisture one and the bar of soap is so big I’ve had the same bar since the fall semester and it’s February, they also have am entire African Black Soap collection that includes a mud mask, moisturizer, shampoo and conditioner but I only use the soap.

8. Black Seed Oil – $25

Let me tell you something, I’d never even heard of this before, but I don’t know why everyone and their mother doesn’t own this but it has been referred to as “a cure for everything except death.” It has endless health benefits that I suggest you do your research on, and because I said “skin care products” in the title, I’ll try to keep the additional list of benefits short, but this helps to clear your skin from the inside out, it tastes absolutely disgusting, but a spoonful a day will change your life. My boyfriend introduced this to me, this not only got rid of this kids acne but his allergies, in days, it literally cleared him right up. This is the most expensive product on this list, an 8 oz. container is somewhere in the $20 to $30 range, they also sell it in capsule form instead of liquid which is usually less expensive.

9. Albolene – $10

OK so this is a face wash and makeup remover, but I’ve never actually used it on my face. It’s more of a weight loss trick. I know a lot of pro boxers, and when they have to cut weight they slab this on their stomach before training. I know it sounds weird but it makes you sweat like crazy, if I’m going to the gym I’ll rub this on my stomach and wrap plastic wrap around my torso. I recommended this trick to my brother and he said he left an actual puddle in the gym lifting weights. You’re not working any harder, but the sweat just falls off you. But be cautious, the focus of this is to make you lose water weight so you should be hydrating yourself when you work out anyway, but make sure you’re drinking a lot of water before and after.

Like I said, what works for some people, doesn’t always work for others, so you may want to look into the benefits of any products you’re interested in trying. I get super curious about things that other people have tried so I encourage you watch all the videos, read all the reviews, and make sure you learn about all the benefits you can find.
