The Big Question People Typically Ask About College

As a college student, one of the worst possible things a college student faces are the questions of “what is your major?” and “what do you aspire to be in the future?” These questions might sound innocent, however they tend to come with strings attached. They generally require a specific response and may be judged no matter how you answer them.

For instance, if you have a STEM-related major with an intent of becoming a doctor, people may say you are intelligent as your ability to be successful is not questionable.

However, if one says they are majoring in the arts or humanities, people will tend to look at a little confused. They may then ask, “what do you want to do with that major?” because they have this preconceived notion that good paying jobs are not available within those fields.

Over the years, society has taught us that having a certain kind of job is necessary to survive the ways of life. Even if it’s the jobs we hate. They have shaped us into believing that no matter how we feel, making money should be the only thing that matters. However, is not the case, especially since the arts are starting to gain more recognition. People today are making thousands of dollars just by simply uploading a YouTube videos with creative content. Typically, people try to restraint college students into a specific future, but they can live off of a job doing what they love. It might be harder, but it is definitely possible.
