Songs to Listen to By The Neighbourhood that Aren’t “Sweater Weather”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePauw chapter.

Earlier this week, many hearts were broken (including mine) when The Neighbourhood took to Instagram announcing their hiatus. It all started when lead singer, Jesse Rutherford, started posting snippets of suspected new solo music on Tik Tok beginning last week. The band has been active since their 2013 breakout album “I Love You,” which includes the popular hit “Sweater Weather,” which has since then become a bisexual anthem that is shared primarily among older teenagers and young adults in their 20s. Tik Tok has also recently played a role in the band’s fame as it has reintroduced songs like “Sweater Weather” and “Daddy Issues.” In honor of their great success over the past decade, I decided to put together a list of other songs by The NBHD that are just as good, if not better, than “Sweater Weather.” If you are a fan of the catchy hit, then you should also check out these songs:

  1. Afraid

This song still has the same 2014 Tumblr-esque angst that Sweater Weather has, however, is a little more vulnerable as we see Rutherford open up about his fears about his future and the music industry. Although we are all not famous rock stars, the feeling of being in fear that the people in your life are going to leave you is pretty universal.

  1. Cherry-Flavoured

This single off of their highly-anticipated 2020 album, Chip Chrome & the Monotones was everything fans needed during the pandemic. Personally, this is a favorite of mine to listen to when I am chilling with my friends because the melody makes you feel like you are floating and everything is at peace for a moment.

  1. Cry Baby

This song is one of my personal favorites, not only because it is super catchy, but also because a lot of people can relate to the message it sends about being fearful in a relationship with someone that you don’t know if you necessarily trust.

  1. Reflections

Reflections has a similar drumbeat as Sweater Weather, but Rutherford puts a sensual spin on it.

  1. Wires

This song deserves to be on here solely for Rutherford’s lyrics. Period. (if you are feeling it, check out the acoustic version as well)

  1. Honest

Unfortunately, this song doesn’t get the credit it deserves because it is a soundtrack song featured on The Amazing Spider-man 2 (2014), but sends an incredible message that is really fitting for the film.

  1. Ferrari

In my opinion, Ferrari is one of the most slept-on songs in their entire discography. While it is not perfect, it definitely doesn’t get the hype it deserves. Not to mention the details in the music are incredible, especially the stiff drum beat and the deep bass riffs.

  1. Daddy Issues Remix (feat. Syd)

As good as the original is, Syd creates a female counterpart that brings an energy that the original lacks.
