Do you ever wish that the time you spent outdoors wasn’t limited to walking to and from class, or sitting in the Dells putting off a research paper? Like many collegiettes, I dream about being able to put life on hold and soak up the spring sun, but I find it hard to do so with such a busy schedule. The solution? Maximize your outdoor activities without fear of poor time management with these fun ideas for spring!

Exercise
In the words of a famous blonde, “Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy! (And happy people just don’t kill their husbands)” So if you’re feeling overloaded with work, take advantage of the weather to burn off both calories and stress. Grab a friend for a run or walk through the nature park, or go for a bike ride around campus. Not only will you look and feel healthier, you will get an essential dose of Vitamin D to prevent your Spring Break tan from fading. Can you say ‘multitasking’? Moving around outdoors is guilt-free fun!

Be a Fan
Spring sports are in full swing on campus, so support your friends and fellow Tigers alike by attending athletic events! Softball, baseball, tennis, track, lacrosse, and Frisbee are all great spectator sports offered at DePauw. Suit up in your black and gold gear and head to Blackstock Stadium to show off your school spirit! You can find event schedules for each sport by going to the athletics web page (http://www.depauw.edu/athletics/schedule/), or by talking to your friends about the sports they’re involved in.

Work it out
The outdoors can be your playground, but it can also be your workplace! If you’re stuck in a stuffy classroom, suggest to the professor an opportunity to use the outdoor classroom. Take advantage of the mobile chalkboard and Adirondack chairs on the East College lawn. Perhaps you have a meeting for a club, organization, or class this afternoon? Switch up the meeting place by gathering in Bowman Park, or at the tables outside the Hub, and get down to business. If you have homework to do and Roy O. just isn’t calling your name, the tables on the terrace of the GCPA provide a perfect study atmosphere on the sun deck. Productivity never felt so good!

Give this sunny spring an opportunity to be your inspiration for getting things done. Lace up your sneakers and get moving, grab some friends and cheer, bring your sunglasses to class, and use the beautiful weather to your advantage in any way you can!
