In high school, I started listening to indie music artist Rex Orange County or Alex O’Connor, and he very quickly became one of my favorite musicians. I fell in love with his unique voice and arrangement of beats, admiring how his sound was constantly different and how no song was similar to the previous. I soon fell into a routine of blasting his albums Apricot Princess and Bcos U Will Never B Free in my car everyday driving home from school or work.

I dreamed of seeing him in concert one day but recognized how unlikely that would be as I was from a small town in Texas and he was a smaller artist in the music industry. Then a couple years later, I moved to Chicago to attend college, and Rex Orange County suddenly announced the release date of his newest album, Pony, his first album in over two years. With that announcement came his North American Tour, announced on September 19th, where he is expected to perform a total of 25 shows, one of them being in Chicago. Overwhelmed with excitement and emotion, I quickly signed up for the online presale and snagged two tickets.

Although it is currently September, and the concert is not until January 2020, I am still unbelievable ecstatic to have the opportunity to see one of my favorite musicians perform live.

With that, I decided to list my top 10 favorite songs by ‘Rex Orange County’ to help begin mentally preparing myself for this soon-to-be unforgettable event.
