This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at DePaul chapter.

You can support Black-owned businesses and be a more conscious consumer no matter where you live. I compiled a list of various apps you can utilize to become a more conscious consumer.

I also list some Black-owned Chicago businesses, broken down by categories. Bookmark this page to refer to later on!

Apps to Keep You Conscious
  1. Good On You: Discover ethical brands and find out how they measure up on the ethical scale.

  2. Native Land: See your “current location” in a new light. Designed to educate you about what indigenous territories and languages might have and still do exist where you are.

  3. HowGood: Search or scan product barcodes to quickly access the HowGood database of over 200,000 food product ratings.

  4. Progressive Shopper: Make a difference when you shop by putting your money where your beliefs and values are. This browser extension calculates the percentage of political contributions made by brands that you shop for.
