Spring Fashion: Mix Winter with Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Denison chapter.

As the weather starts to get nicer, and the school year comes to an end…often times so does your bank account. We always want to look cute, yet also save money for those summer vacations and adventures visiting college friends, eating out more and saving up for the school year. So why no wear your winter clothes? No, I don’t mean wearing pants in 90 degree weather or cutting off your sleeves! There are many fun (and fashionable) ways that you can look cute and save money.

Let’s start with shoes:

On those hot, hot humid days you often don’t want to go this route – but want to look adorable in a loose, flowy summer dress on a summer night? Wear BOOTS!

Don’t put away those cowboy boots, break them out for a 4th of July cookout or fun country concert! Even pull out the riding boot, ankle boot, you name it. Just be sure to wear thin socks, and a flowy top or fun necklace to balance the edgy look.

Sweaters:

You know those sweaters that you just loveee, but in the winter they are too light to wear without a jacket? Wear it with shorts! Light sweaters with shorts always elongate your legs, and are perfect if your summer job is indoors in a chilly store or office.

Blazers:

These are so in and can be worn all year round. They are no longer strictly for business purposes, or even with a skirt – they can totally transform those old ripped jean shorts, or change your day outfit to a night look.

Flannels:

Feeling a little edgy? Go for an unbuttoned flannel. This is a classic 90s look that you can pair with a cute, tighter, tank top to balance the proportions – you can even add the classic high waisted shorts!

Jewelry:

Also! Some other fun tips on spring and summer style…One of my FAVORITE items is my jewelry! Jewelry is the ultimate solution to re wearing outfits, dressing them up, or just changing up a look.

If you get any large statement necklaces or earrings, always pair it with one of your staple items, like a simple white or black tank with jean shorts – or a chunky bracelet with that new cardigan.

I have found that you can re wear jewelry way more than a nice top, it is generally cheaper if you look for places like Francesca’s and H&M, the jewelry is still good quality and much more affordable – plus it is totally in style this spring!

Happy summer and happy saving!!
